Why I built AlwaysNear
In 2025 I was in an e-scooter accident in Lisbon. I needed emergency brain surgery and spent 43 days in the hospital, with complications that included a staph infection and blood clots.
More than 100 people wanted updates. Repeating the same news, again and again, helped inspire AlwaysNear: one private update to everyone who needs to know.

No. They receive your update by text, email, or both.
A text, if they have a phone number and have replied YES. An email, if they have a valid email address. The message is the update you wrote.
No. AlwaysNear is for private one-way updates, not a conversation. A contact can reply YES to opt in to status texts, STOP to opt out, or HELP for help. START or UNSTOP turns status texts back on after they opt out. Any other reply is not delivered to you.
A trusted helper is someone you choose to help send updates on your behalf. You invite them, and they accept in the AlwaysNear app. After they accept, they can send an update for you. They cannot see contact phone numbers or email addresses. If they send the update, the text says it was sent by an approved delegate.
No. AlwaysNear is not a replacement for 911 or local emergency services. An update goes out only when you, or a trusted helper you approved, choose to send it.

When a contact is added, AlwaysNear sends a one-time invitation SMS. The contact must reply YES before receiving emergency/status updates.
